Velocity & Drop

Trajectory, Drop & Wind Calculator

Estimate projectile velocity, bullet path, wind drift and scope correction from muzzle velocity, ballistic coefficient, rifle zero and environmental conditions.

Calculator

Results are calculated from the entered conditions.

Use the same G1 or G7 model stated by the bullet or ammunition manufacturer.
Measured chronograph velocity gives a better estimate than box velocity.
Vertical distance from centre of bore to centre of optic.
Direction describes where the wind comes from.
Advanced settings
Required only for remaining energy.
Positive is target above shooter; negative is below.

Atmospheric conditions

Standard atmosphere

Weather services often show sea-level corrected pressure. Use station pressure when measured at the shooting location.

Calculation model

This is a 3DOF point-mass estimate using G1 or G7 ballistic coefficients, gravity, atmospheric density, sight height, rifle zero geometry, inclination and a horizontal constant wind vector.

  • G7 is generally a better reference for modern pointed boat-tail rifle bullets.
  • G1 is commonly used for traditional flat-base projectile shapes.
  • A G1 BC is not converted into G7, and a G7 BC is not converted into G1.
  • Bullet mass is not needed for trajectory, but it is required for energy.

Safety notice

Ballistic results are estimates and must be confirmed at the range. Do not rely on a calculated correction without verifying the firearm, ammunition, optic and actual shooting conditions.

  • The tool does not calculate chamber pressure or recommend powder charges.
  • It does not determine ammunition compatibility, safe firing direction or backstop.
  • It does not account for every aerodynamic effect, and real wind may differ substantially along the bullet path.
  • Users remain responsible for identifying the target and what lies beyond it.
